CHANGES TO MICHIGAN'S DISTRACTED DRIVING LAW

With distracted driving accounting for nearly 25% of all fatal crashes in Michigan, the state's current distracted driving law has recently been expanded to include more restrictions on the use of mobile electronic devices.
While the old law banned drivers from reading, typing and texting, the new law also now prohibits the use of a mobile electronic device to:

The new law also increases fines for violating the rules and doubles the fines if the violation occurs during an accident.
NOTE: Cell phone violations are considered moving violations by some insurance carriers because they increase the chance of being in an accident.
