Eligible Michigan drivers will start seeing refund checks soon. The refund is part of auto reform legislation passed in 2019 that requires the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) to issue money back to drivers.
All insurance carriers are subject to the same guidelines below and will handle the refund directly with insureds.
Statement from the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS)
Governor Gretchen Whitmer has directed the MCCA to distribute $3 billion of its $5 billion surplus to Michigan’s insurance companies so that they may issue refunds to their insureds. The MCCA was directed to return the maximum amount of surplus funds to eligible Michiganders while ensuring continuity of care for the injured. This transfer, initiated on March 9, has started the 60-day clock for insurers to distribute those refund checks or direct deposits to eligible Michiganders.
